How publishing works
Publishing with VERALIS follows a clear, trackable path — from the moment you submit to the day your article is live, cited, and discoverable. Here's exactly what happens at each stage, and what's expected of you along the way.

You choose the right journal and article type, then complete a guided, save-as-you-go wizard: upload your files, add metadata (title, abstract, authors, ORCID), and complete your declarations (ethics, consent, funding, data availability, AI use). When you submit, you receive a confirmation and a manuscript ID.
Initial checks
Before peer review, every manuscript passes editorial screening: a technical check (completeness and formatting), a similarity/plagiarism check, and an ethics screening. If something needs fixing, we return the manuscript with clear guidance so you can revise and resubmit. Manuscripts outside the journal's scope may be declined at this stage (a desk decision).
Peer review
An editor assesses your manuscript and invites suitable, conflict-free reviewers. Reviewers provide objective, confidential assessments of validity, rigor, originality, and relevance. Review timelines vary by field and availability; you can see the current stage in your dashboard at any time.
Editorial decision
Once reviews are in, the handling editor makes an independent decision based on merit — accept, request revisions (minor or major), reject, or transfer to a more suitable journal. Decisions are never influenced by fees, and finance or marketing functions have no role in them. You'll receive the decision letter and reviewer comments.
Revision
If revisions are requested, you respond to the reviewers' comments and submit a revised manuscript by the stated due date. Editors evaluate the revision and may return it for further review or move to a final decision.
Acceptance
When your manuscript is accepted, it moves into production. If an article processing charge applies, an invoice is issued at this point (after the editorial decision), and eligible authors can request a full or partial waiver — this never affects the decision.
Production & proofs
Our production team typesets your article into HTML, PDF, and JATS XML, with figures, tables, data links, and citation exports. You receive a proof to review; you can approve it or request corrections before publication.
Publication
Once the proof is approved, we assign a persistent DOI, publish your article under open access, and make it free to read and reuse under the stated Creative Commons license. You'll get a publication certificate and downloadable files from your dashboard.
Discovery & preservation
We expose standards-compliant metadata (DOIs, JATS, Dublin Core, schema.org, Google Scholar tags) and feeds (OAI-PMH, sitemaps, RSS) so readers and indexing services can find and cite your work. Articles are archived for long-term preservation, so the record stays available.

Keeping the record honest
After publication, we maintain the version of record. If needed, we issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions transparently and per COPE guidance, with clear linking to the original article.
